New DreamTeam Expectations

Posted on

2021 started with a bang here in Plantvillage with so many activities expected to take place this year .One of them is the expansion of the DreamTeam Kenya to other counties , which are Kilifi county and Bungoma county .

17 recent graduates from different universities across the country have joined the DreamTeam .They were welcomed with an intensive training in Busia County .The training was led by the senior DreamTeam members and Mr. wafula ,an Agricultural  Extension officer who was an invited speaker .

Here are some of the Expectations, motivation and targets of the new DreamTeam;

Sophie Nadzua Mwadzombo from Kilifi county with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and enterprise development from Pwani University has this to say,’’I can say I’m like a knife which came to Busia  for sharpening . I believe that after this training I will be fully equipped with the knowledge and skills which will be of great benefit to our farmers in the community . My goal is to provide the needed agricultural knowledge and skills to our farmers. I am expecting to help many small scale farmers especially who practice cassava and maize production increase their yields thus improving their standards of living as well as food security in Kenya ‘’

Mathew Kipkogei Korir , a passionate agriculturist from Elgeyo Marakwet with a Bsc in Agricultural Biotechnology from Moi University says ,’’ My goals this year working with Plantvillage is to bring technical knowledge ,experience and new technologies to be adapted and tested by smallholder farmers. I would like to play a role in the increase of farm productivity , farm revenue, reduced poverty and minimize food insecurity among smallholder farmers’’

Brenda Cheptoo a young graduate from Uasin Gishu county . She pursued Bsc in Agricultural Biotechnology at Moi University, her main motivation is to have farmers adapt to the new agricultural technologies such as the push pull technology and the plantVillage Nuru App which she will train farmers about.

The diversity in the background, experiences and motivation of these young people will definitely have a positive impact to the small holder farmer and food security in general.
