Congratulation to PlantVillage and Partners for winning Mercy Corps Agrifin Awards

In the recent concluded virtual event, PlantVillage was privileged to participate as well as contribute to Mercy Corps AgriFin 5th Annual Learning Event. PlantVillage Founder and Professor in Pennsylvania State University, David Hughes together with CEO Annalyse Kehs were among speakers who delivered session on Moonshoot technology innovations tackling climate change with smallholder farmers.PlantVillage Nuru was featured here amongst the most innovative digital technology for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

In this event, PlantVillage received two award certificates of appreciation; an award certificate in Building Innovations in Public -Private partnership benefitting smallholder farmers and another award for Innovating for impact and resilience during COVID-19 & Desert Locust.

PlantVillage in collaboration with Mediae reached to over 16 million farmers with desert locust and Covid 19 information. PlantVillage worked closely with other organizations such as FAO to develop content that create awareness about locust and prompt citizen reporting. This content was then disseminated by Mediae. Farmers and trained locust scouts were able to report desert locust sightings through channels such as Elocust3M app (a locust reporting app) WhatsApp for Business and SMS.

PlantVillage also works on validating and processing data on locust sightings and produce a prediction maps. These locust maps reach millions of farmers weekly through Shamba Shape Up television series.
