Apple tree did not blossom after pruning

Apple    PA

We pruned our apple tree in February last year and it did not blossom at all all year. I remember there was a cold snap at some point soon after the tree was pruned. Was it perhaps the weather that caused this or was it as a result of incorrect pruning? It’s a beautiful old tree and I sincerely hope we have not damaged it.

Hi Michelle
Exactly the same thing happened to me. I had done quite a bit of research and discovered that the dormant season was the best time to prune. So I think you were correct there. There is a great video here from Maine Extension https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JvJr...

I learned that pruning should lead to more fruit but like you I had nothing the year I pruned. I did hear afterwards that if you take too much off the tree goes into vegetative growth rather that flowering. I dont know. The same frost that got you also got our tree here in Central PA. It killed all the flowers on our Magnolia overnight.

So, I will see what this year brings. I dont you have damaged it and in the long run probably will increase fruit as the video explains.
