What is a cole crop?

I have just started out gardening so I am learning lots of new thing. I keep coming across this term. What is a cole crop exactly?

Cole crops are basically anything in the Brassica family.....this includes broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, etc. "Cole" is just an older term that was derived from a Latin term similar to cabbage.

Also collards, kale, mustards, turnip, rutabaga, kohlrabi. Close relatives: horseradish, radish, cress, arugula, nasturtium, wasabi. So much deliciousness!
