How to grow kidney beans successfully?

I am extension specialist here. Farmers of my area are cultivating kidney beans for the first time.

Some farmers have sown the crop at commercial level , can you suggest a good fungicide spray as the conditions are favorable for fungal diseases. Crop is one month old.

Kidney beans also know as common beans grows both in tropical and temperate climate.

Ideal conditions to grow kidney beans are

1. Grows well at 16 to 24 degree C and need annual rainfall of 60 to 150 cm.
2. It can be grown on wide variety of soil but will get good yield if grown in well drained loamy soil (pH 5.5 to 6).
3. Need fine seed bed with good moisture. So good land preparation is necessary. Deep ploughing followed by 3 to 4 harrowing should be done. Also provide proper drainage to field.
4. Required seed rate - 50kg/ha
5. February to first week of March is ideal for sowing spring crop and mid May to mid June best for monsoon crop.
6. Spacing 30cm x 15cm and sow seed at 6 to 7 cm deep.
7. Nutrient requirements: Apply sufficient quantity of farm yard manure or compost during land preparation and provide 100 kg/ha nitrogen, 60 kg/ha phosphorous during growth stage.
8. Need one weeding (preferably hand weeding) after one month of sowing. Also can use pre emergence weedicide while sowing.
9. In non rainy season provide irrigation at critical stages of crop preferably at 25, 50, 75 and 100 days after sowing.
10. Need regular field scouting. Mainly watch out for anthracnose disease and pod borers.

Re fungus: You can spray Captaf (1g/liter) or Diathene M-45 (1g/liter) to prevent leaf diseases including anthracnose. Spray every 9 to 14 days interval.
