Leafminer larvae are virtually impervious to insecticides on edible crops. Remove and destroy affected leaves to help break the cycle. Yellow sticky traps can also help destroy adults. There is a parasitic wasp available for purchase, but it's very expensive and there's no guarantee they won't fly away.

Liriomyza rarely attacks spinach. You may also have Phytomyza. The control is the same.

Other than the spinach and the cabbage, the insects are doing no real damage. Severe leafminer outbreaks are often caused by excess use of insecticides, since they have numerous enemies that normally keep them well controlled. You may want to review what you are using and see if you can cut back or use other control methods for your crops.

If all else fails, Abemetin, CHLORANTRANILIPROLE, and Spinosad can be used in rotation. Abemectin has a preharvest interval of 7 days, and an REI of 12 hours, so it should be used with caution.

Leaf miners are not usually threatening to plants, but control is often necessary to manage the highly visible tunnels in leaves that can reduce crop value.

Management:
Monitor plant leaves closely. At the first sign of tunneling, squeeze the leaf at the tunnel between two fingers to crush any larvae. Done soon enough, this killing larvae can allow plants to survive minor outbreaks. Pick off and destroy badly infested leaves in small gardens.

The more healthy the plant, the less chance that leafminers will hurt it. Maintain plant health with organic fertilizers and proper watering to allow plants to outgrow and tolerate pest damage. Keep your soil alive by using compost and other soil amendments.

Use yellow sticky traps to catch egg laying adults. Cover soil under infested plants with plastic mulches to prevent larvae from reaching the ground and pupating.

Organic neem oil will break the pests’ life-cycle by preventing larva from reaching maturity. Neem oil may also have repellent qualities and interfere with egg laying activities. (http://www.planetnatural.com/pest-pro...)

Can you please provide more details about the problem? How many plants do you have? Are you growing just a few peppers at home or do you have a whole field which you are growing commercially? Have you sprayed the plants with anything previously? Often leafminer outbreaks are caused by early applications of insecticides which kill of populations of natural enemies such as parasitoid wasps which allows the leafminer population to multiply to damaging levels. Please provide some more details, as well as some images if possible, and we will do our best to help.

Lindsay McMenemy commented,
Has there been any change in the productivity of your plants? Treatment may not be necessary if your plants are ok. The damage may be purely cosmetic, in which case you can ignore it.
