Plants for a rooftop garden in Zurich Switzerland

General    South Wales

My son lives in a roof top apartment with a balcony in Zurich. Can anyone recommend suitable potted plants for the summer months (from now) The areas receive full sun for most of the day.

PlantVillage is actually a site for edible plants - does your son want to grow edibles or is he just looking for ornamentals?

Assuming you are looking for information of growing edibles then here is a link to a similar question which was been asked previously. It provides information on which plants might be suitable fro growing in pots:

Hello David,

I am also living in Zurich and have been experimenting for the first time with rooftop gardening here. So far, cucumbers have been doing extremely well and loving the rooftop environment. They are quick growing plants so if he starts some now he should still be able to get fruits throughout September. If he can give some partial shade to the plants, lettuces would also do well if he starts them in mid August for growing in the fall. My fennel also is growing very nicely, as well as bush beans, which would give you a fall crop if started now.
