Kathryn Fiedler commented,
Are these cacao all grown from seed or grafted? We see a lot of variety in cacao vigor that are naturally seeded. I recommend to my growers to let seeds germinate in pots and observe growth for the first 0-2 years to make sure the characteristics are suitable for your plantation.

There are many possible reasons. It could be nutrients, disease or over exposure to the sun. Can you take pictures of the pods and trunk? Notably tell us if there are soil canopies on the pods. Also, please take pictures or describe the coverage above the tree. Is it too exposed? Cocoa requires shade. How many trees do you have? Are they all stunted?
