Can my blueberry plant be saved?

Blueberry    NYC

My blueberry plant was so beautiful last summer; lots of branches, leaves and a few berries since it was the first year I brought it home. This summer it looks quite sad. I think the harsh winter we had in NYC may have killed part of it. Can it be saved? What can I do to help it? Will it be better next year?

The plant is showing healthy new green growth. It is recovering, it just may taken time to fully come back. If you must do something, a SMALL dose of nitrogen fertilizer (for example seed meal, fish emulsion or blood meal) may be helpful if you do it now, but don't do it again. Fertilizing close to winter may damage the plant further.

Blueberries have wide, shallow root systems. A larger pot would be helpful for the plant in the long term.

Blueberries like acidic soil, so a little peat top dressing might be helpful. As potted plants are watered the soil can be leached, changing the pH. (A little test strip can provide useful insight.)

I have discovered that blueberries touted as "full sun" do poorly in Southern California sunshine ... Under a tree with partial shade they are thriving... If the pot is in a hot sunny nook might be a similar problem...

Also , blueberries reproduce better with more than one plant around.
Although self fruitful, mixing it up a little can help...

Prune it back a bit, taking off any dead growth and scrawny sticks, then feed it with either azalea fertilizer or used coffee grounds.

I agree with pruning, you want to prune the oldest bark back, any branches crossing, and anything obstructing new green stem growth
