What is damaging my kale leaves?

General    None Given

I've been having the same disease going from my kale leaves to my green beans and to my English cucumber. The symptoms are on the bottom of the leaves also and there are black dots. Any idea what it is ??

Thanks

Thanks for the photos, are there any symptoms on the undersides of the leaves?

The cucumber image looks like it could be the beginnings of leafminer damage....

I think some more detailed images might be required to try and diagnose this one...

The silvery spots look very much thrip (insect) feeding damage, a fairly mild case so far, but they can multiply quickly. The black pepper-like spots you are finding on the undersides of the leaves are insect droppings, more evidence of thrip feeding. It may take some slight magnification to see them.

Thrips are a difficult pest to manage but there are many options - cultural controls, biological controls, and chemical applications. You should be able to find something suitable to your gardening style and budget. A Google search for thrip control is a good start. A comprehensive overview is available at http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNO.... I often try a water spray as a first treatment (not too forceful). Insecticidal soaps or neem oil are popular options. I have had limited success with insecticidal soap against thrips - knocks them back some but not enough in my opinion. If you do use a soap on cucumbers or melons, be aware that the leaves may burn. I would suggest washing the soap off after 10-15 minutes.

Some of the damage could also be leafminers, which are the larval stage of several different insects.
