Snap Peas' leaves discolored and stems rotting/snapping

seedlings in the ground- only about 2.5 weeks old. Half of crop is browning (like rotting) at the base of the plant and leaves are curling up and getting variegated. What is happening?

I'm wondering if it still too hot where you are for peas. What are the temperatures like currently? Peas will do best when temperatures are below 21C/70F.
