Vegetables can be classified into 4 different groups based on their pollination.

1. Self-pollinating
bush, pole and lima beans, chicory, endive, English and Southern peas, tomatoes

2. Seed only with pollen from an unrelated plant
cabbages, radish

3. Cross-pollinated vegetables

(A) Pollinated by air-borne pollen
beets, carrots, celery, corn, onions, spinach, Swiss chard

(B) Pollinated by insect-borne pollen
broccoli, gourds, parsley, Brussels sprouts, kale, parsnip, cauliflower, kholrabi, peppers, citron, lettuce, pumpkins, collards, muskmelon, rutabaga, cucumbers, mustard, squashes, eggplant, okra, watermelons

4. Both male and female parts on same plant (monoecious)
asparagus, spinach, some hybrid cucumbers
