Nutfall & Mealybugs

Coconut    Mysore

I have 4 coconut trees and I am facing nut fall & mealybugs issue, the trees are more than 20 years old. The local coconut farmers are misleading me to apply pesticides (biliatex ) in kgs. I have given neam cake granules with salt & potash to the tree, but still the nut fall is not stopped. I am losing daily 3 - 4 nuts... can you suggest any solution for it?

The nutfall in your garden may be occurring due to fruit rot fungus (Phytophthora palmivora) or due to high infestation of mealy bugs.

Management:
1. Collect and burn the fallen nuts
2. Apply 100 grams of muriate of potash per tree
3. If you see any fungal rot on fallen nuts spray 1% Bordeaux mixture to the bunches
4. To control mealy bugs spray 3% neem oil

Since you have already applied potash and neem cake you are in right direction. And please do remember it may take some time to see the result.
