Web-like fiber on squash seedlings

Squash    Victorville, CA

Hi, I am growing my first garden and one of my goals is to be able to grow squash. The only seed that has sprout started to form some sort of fiber that looks like a spider web. I do not have spiders in the container. What is going on??

It looks like the growth of fungus to me, rather than spider. Brush it away and don't let the containers get too moist (don't close the lid over it where it has wet soil as humidity builds up to close to 100%)

Charlie B. commented,
I agree with David's assessment and recommendations. It looks like growth of the fungus Rhizopus which is not usually something we have to be concerned about in terms of seedling diseases. But it is an opportunistic fungus that will take advantage of a high humidity environment.

Abraham Andrade commented,
Thank you so much! I am using these dirt capsules that expand as soon as you add water and believe I added too much water and kept the containers in a 75-80 degrees area. Humidity and stuffiness was quite a daily thing. I had to take the seed out as it was completely moldy. I'm starting brand new. Once again, Thanks David and Charlie for your comments.
