Brown spots on tomato

Tomato    FL, United States

I just picked my first two ripe tomatoes of the year! Think I got lucky - first tomato plants I've ever grown. I keep the plants in containers on the deck out back and I noticed that one of the other tomatos thats still green has some brown spots on it!! Could I have damaged it somehow or is this some kind of tomato disease?!!? What should I do?

Well done with your tomato harvest, that's great! Looking forward to the end of winter here in PA! A photo may be helpful if you can provide one, there are a few diseases that can cause spots on the tomato fruit. Bacterial spot seems to be common in Florida according to IFAS extension (http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/PP/...) but you would likely see some symptoms on the leaves. Perhaps you are right and you managed to damage it somehow. Lets see if we can narrow it down a bit more with a picture?

Could be a good call..... there is actually a picture of thrips damage in the University of Florida extension document.
