Minarette planted in March - pests

Cherry (including sour)    None Given

I bought this cherry tree in March; it is in a large container and up to now has been fine - but now today I notice that the lower leaves are chewed about, and that there is one crinkly leaf as well. Please can you tell me the reason for this, and how I can deal with it. Thanks. Rene

I think it is fruit tree leafroller or other foliage feeding caterpillar damage. The adult moths lay egg in mass on leaves or stem. After hatching the larvae starts feeding on leaves by making holes in the initial stage, but will devour entire leaves as the age advances. Also the insect like fruit tree leafroller take shelter by rolling the leaves.

Locate the egg mass or larvae and scrap them into a bowl of soapy water. Remove the damaged leaves and dispose them. Spray homemade insecticide soap solution (add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil+ 2 tablespoons of baking soda+ few drops of Ivory soap in 1 quart of water) or biocontrol agents like Bacillus thuringiensis, or spinosad to repel/kill the insects.
