Unknown worm in herb garden

General    State College, PA

I wish I had a picture, but I had no camera with me when I saw this. I spotted a very strange worm in my herb garden in central Pennsylvania yesterday; it was on my "curry" plant, although I highly doubt it was plant-specific. It was extremely thin - about the width of a thread or hair, light grey in color, and about 10 cm long. I thought it actually was a thread at first, but then I held a stick up to it and it slowly wrapped itself around it. Have you encountered a worm like this and know what it could be?

I think it could be a horsehair worm (http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/iiin/h...), but it's not the right season or color based on ISU's description. Perhaps it's a newly emerged one?

Hard to say without an image but long sinuous worm that wraps around things sounds like a hair worm. They are parasites of insects and it could have recently emerged.
