How to plant mixed plants and where to get edible plants seeds

General    Lagos

Hi,

I am new into agribusiness , I venture into plantain business almost a month ago.

I have planted some plantain in an acre of land and the type of land is a swampy land, although I have digged some kind of gutter in between the farmland for passage of flood and erosion.

However, I want want to ask if I can also plant pumpkin (ugu) and okra as a kind of mixed farming on this piece of land.

Please what is your advice particularly on this type of land, is it a good idea to also plant both ugu and okra on this land and how can I get a good seed of ugu and okra.

Plantain is very commonly grown with other crops. You can typically get one harvest before the additional crop is shaded out. Okra grows best on well-drained sandy loam soils.
If the soil is waterlogged (as yours is) then the danger is of the plant dying because of too little oxygen of the plants. Okra prefers slightly acidic soils with a pH between 5.8 and 6.5. On clay soils,
seedlings have difficulty emerging, and transplanting is recommended.

The problem you could have with pumpkin is that the wet conditions would favor fungal pathogens like powdery mildew. If you clear the area where it is planted and lay down straw (mulching, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Px1t...). This reduces contact of the cucumber leaves with the ground

I dont know for your area how you get good seeds for Okra and pumpkin. It might be a good idea to first see
1) What seeds you can get
2) What crops are liable to be good to sell at market

I have often seen Cassava planted with Plantain in Ghana.
