Hi Martha, What is the white stuff near the base of wilted plant? Did you apply any fertilizer?

I think wilting of your plant may be due to fertilizer burn. Generally fertilizer should be spread on the ground starting approximately 6 inches from the base of the plant. Application of fertilizers too close to base resulting in burning of the stem and killing of whole plant.

I agree with Ravi, the large brown patches on the leaves and general yellowing in between the veins of the leaves lend itself to being chemical burn. The fertilizer will wain over time so there is a chance the plant in the first image could come back but the second plant is most likely gone.
