Mystery bugs eating my pepper plants

General    None Given

There are small nits ( is the only thing that comes to mind) on my Cajun bell pepper plant and mostly avoiding my hot pepper plant right next to it. I would appreciate any help with getting rid of these things before my plants are gone. We do live in an apartment and this pot is on our patio so I am weary of using anything poisonous to humans on them with a small child. Thank you ahead of time!

I cannot identify this based on this image. I am an Entomologist at Penn State so I am generally good at this stuff. You could take a better picture but essentially the problem you have is something is eating your plant. One good solution is spraying water with a high powered nozzle. Even better is soapy water

I am thinking Aphids or Thrips. The suggestion of sraying affected areas with water using a high prowered nozzle is a good place to start. The idea of using insecticide soap is a great idea.
