Hazelnut (filbert)    None Given

Hello, Do you think the abnormal development of the catkins could be a Phyllody (probably causes by phytoplasma)? Images taken July 2017 in Republic of Georgia

Hi Eloy, it could be phyllody but need to be confirmed by laboratory diagnosis. Do you have diagnostic lab or University in your place? Also the leaves on image 1 and 2 shows brown spots, twisting and whitish coat. Did you check for any insect or mite on the leaves?

Many thanks for the prompted reply. The presence of Phytoptus avellanae is significant here (although it produces galls in buds not this), as well as Xanthomonas (which could explain the brown spots of pic 1 and 2). We will look carefully for other insects or mites present. Anyway we will try to send some samples of tissue to the lab.
Again thanks,
