something has attacked my trees causing nuts to be brown mush inside husk

Pecan    Arkansas

My pecan trees have something causing the nuts to start falling in late August and continue to do so. So far, the husks are easily crushed and the meat inside is nothing but brown, yucky mush. I am not sure if it is a disease or possibly an insect that is causing this atrocity. The trees are getting to be about 25 years old. Is it time to start over with new trees? Or can these be treated with hopes of good pecans for next year?

This looks to me like damage from a black pecan aphid
