Something is eating the leave on my ube. I see pea-sized waste material around the plant but I have not seen any insects yet. I have checked several times during the day and at 8 pm but have found nothing.

If you see material like this it indicates a burrowing insect which could be a caterpillar or beetle larvae. The insect may be nocturnal and more active in the early morning. As Kelsee said, please upload an image

Doug, can you please upload a picture of the leaf damage? We might be able to identify the insect from the holes it made over 5 years ago.
