TRMM: http://trmm.gsfc.nasa.gov/data_dir/data.html
GPM: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/GPM/main/index.html
For the Sahel TRMM has the most accurate data as compared to rainfall gauges, unfortunately the TRMM officially came to an end in April this year (the satellite fell). A new and even better satellite (Global Precipitation Measurement: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/GPM/main/index.html) has gone up in its place (run by NASA and JAXA).
CHIRPS: http://chg.geog.ucsb.edu/data/chirps/
Climate Hazards Group (UC Santa Barbara) InfraRed Precipitation with Station data (CHIRPS) is a 30+ year quasi-global rainfall dataset. Spanning 50°S-50°N (and all longitudes), starting in 1981 to near-present, CHIRPS incorporates 0.05° resolution satellite imagery with in-situ station data to create gridded rainfall time series for trend analysis and seasonal drought monitoring. As of February 12th, 2015, version 2.0 of CHIRPS is complete and available to the public.

The country level maps and graphs depict the latest 36-month period of the seasonal, vegetation and precipitation indicators. The data is presented by dekad and month. All three vegetation indicators are based on 10-day (dekadal) vegetation data from the METOP-AVHRR sensor at 1 km resolution (2007 and after). Data at 1 km resolution for the period 1984-2006 was derived from the NOAA-AVHRR dataset at 16 km resolution. Precipitation estimates for all African countries (except Cabo Verde and Mauritius) are taken from NOAA/FEWSNet, while for the remaining countries data is obtained from ECMWF.

AfriClim: https://www.york.ac.uk/environment/research/kite/resources/
AFRICLIM provides high-resolution ensemble climate projections for Africa. The spatial database includes monthly grids of temperature and rainfall, and derived bioclimatic summary variables such as moisture indices and dry season length.
Version 3.0 of the database spans ten general circulation models (GCMs), downscaled using five regional climate models (RCMs) and four contemporary baselines, under two representative concentration pathways of the IPCC-AR5 (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5).

WorldClim is a set of global climate layers (climate grids) with a spatial resolution of about 1 square kilometer. The data can be used for mapping and spatial modeling in a GIS or with other computer programs.
