Fall armyworm status and distribution: "S. frugiperda was first reported in continental African by Sao Tome in 2013. It was later reported in Nigeria, Benin and Togo and we now confirm that it is in Ghana. This was confirmed through molecular identification of samples collected as a result of reports received across the country in 2016. The pest has been reported in nine (9) out of the ten (10) regions in the country with the Western Region as the exception." (International Plant Protection Convention Pest Reports 2017)
Estimated yield loss: "Based on the survey results, the estimated national mean loss of maize in Ghana was 45% (range 22-67%), and in Zambia 40% (range 25-50%)." (CABI, 2017)
