PlantVillage Tanzania officials conclude benchmarking trip to Kenya

Thadei Myungile, the director; Ashura Swai, the co-director; and Johnson Junior Kaaya, an accountant, touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on Monday, June 13, 2023, on a mission to gain insight on how the PlantVillage Dream Team in Kenya works.

 

They were hosted in Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu County by Dream Team Agro Consultancy Limited director, Dr. John Chelal, and Tanzania country lead, Bismark Plimo, for the entire period.

 

The official trip is part of PlantVillage’s plan to introduce some of the established projects in Kenya, such as biochar production and cassava growing, in Tanzania through the newly registered Dream Team Agro Consultancy Company Limited.

 

During their stay in Eldoret town, the trio learned about the culture, leadership, and structural dynamics of the PlantVillage Dream Team in Kenya, which has successfully fostered connections with farmers, empowering them along the way.

 

Venturing further afield, the officials explored various sites of interest, including a biochar production facility in Baringo, flourishing cassava fields in Bungoma, and an innovative parasitoids-rearing laboratory in Eldoret.

"Our journey also led us to interact with seasoned Kenyan farmers affiliated with PlantVillage, such as Peter Wabwoya from Kanduyi Sub-County in Bungoma County. The experience was truly awe-inspiring, leaving us brimming with excitement for the enhanced collaboration between the PlantVillage Dream Teams in Kenya and Tanzania," shared a thrilled Thadei Myungile.

 

Filled with newfound inspiration and knowledge, the officials return to Tanzania, ready to chart an innovative path for PlantVillage, fostering sustainable agricultural practices and transforming communities along the way.
