Maize is a host to witchweed, advice them to plant weak maize seed which is not planned for production/harvesting. On its vegetative stage of maize the weed will grow at this stage the farmer can till the whole farm to exposed the weed to sunlight. Another method is to flood the farm for at least a week or two. The plant will suffocate since it is not aquatic plant and it dies.

Witch weed is parasitic. Survive through a host. Witch weed seeds can go dormant for some years waiting to germinate when there find a host crop. Common host crops are cereals. Planting leguminous crops helps to overcome witch weeds as well as crop rotation.
