Why are my basil leaves turning black

Basil    England:Burnley

The leaves that are turning black don't fall off I just have been picking them off is it because they are ready to be picked or something else

They are not ready to be picked. Only green leaves should be picked and used.

Black leaves are bad. It is either a fungus or sunburn. Are the leaves exposed to the sun? Either way remove the leaves, place them in a plastic bag and throw them away

Post pictures as that helps us a lot

Hi. From my experience in australia frost causes black leaves. Not sure of what your weather would be at this time of year.
