What root crops will grow in partial shade (if any)?

General    CT

I have an unused corner of my yard that I would like to plant in but it is shaded in the afternoon by the garage. I haven't planted any root vegetables and I would ideally like to use this space to do so. Would I be able to grow anything here? I would estimate that the area gets around 5 hours early in the day. Any advice?

Has the area been heavily sprayed with pesticides? I avoid planting near foundations for that reason.

That's still plenty of light for root veggies. Beets and turnips are great because you can eat the whole plant, root and greens alike.

Check out this link on gardening in the shade with actually lists the numbers of hours of sun required by each vegetable http://ctnofa1982.blogspot.com/2012/0...
