PH level dropping w/ my hydroponic lettuce.

General    western MA/ south windsor CT

I have a NFT hydroponic lettuce system w/ 1620 heads of assorted lettuce running at a 5 week rotation. recently the ph has started dropping in the nutrient tank for no apparent reason. It is an automated system that replaces the water and nutrients as used keeping the levels in acceptable range. Normally The system requires the ph to be adjusted down as our water is PH 7.6 . Our water source ph hasn't changed nutients haven't changed. the meters have been checked.Any ideas ? thanks

Hey Tony, I should be able to help you with this. Couple questions first, are you using supplemental co2 or RO water?

I wonder if the drop in PH is related to growth of bacteria in the water or the pipes? Have you seen any build-up? Many bacteria require nutrients such as iron, magnesium etc. And the produce by-products. The growth of bacteria might be an issue.

Thanks for your input David. It's a fresh tank with town water degassed for a few days to remove the chlorine. We use a product called z-7 it's a probiotic enzyme that keeps our lines and tanks clean and free of biofilm. We've been using it for months now with great results ie. much whiter roots /reduced build up in our microlines/healthier plants and better yields. The only difference here I can think of is the temp has dropped from high 70s to high 60s F which has cooled the nutrient water to the low 60's.

My PH did the same thing. I made my own fertilizer and it did not have any buffers in it. I switched to a commercial blend and it solved my problem. It was to big of a hassle to mix my own.
