Curly new leaves in papaya
Papaya (pawpaw) India
its one month old plant, new leaves are getting affected, what is the cause and can you please suggest some natural remedy for the same.

Hi Sudan, how many plants are infected? Is there any other crops surrounding? Did you notice any insects, particularly whiteflies?
It could be papaya leaf curl disease caused by papaya leaf curl virus. It is mainly transmitted by whiteflies. The main symptoms are downward and inward rolling of top leaves and thickening of veins. The leaves become leathery, brittle and distorted. In severe case the affected leaves may drop off and stop the plant growth.
Remove the infected plant and burn them. In future use yellow sticky traps to monitor and control whiteflies. Avoid growing papaya near tomato plants.

Thank you Dr.Ravishankar, ya the whiteflies have started appear but very less, there are other insects too like grasshopper. and i have planted chilli next to the papaya and it also has the same problem. about 7 years ago.

To control white flies, spray soap and vegetable oil solution (make a base mixture first by mixing 1 tablespoon of regular dish soap in 1 cup of vegetable oil. Take 1 1/2 teaspoons of base mixture and dissolve in one cup of water, mix well and pour it into a spray bottle. It needs to be shaken often as you are using it. Make sure to spray both lower and upper surfaces of leaves. The best time to spray is during early morning or late evening when the temperature is cool. about 7 years ago.

No, the oil and soap mixture is to control whiteflies. There are no chemicals to control leaf curl virus. The disease affected plants need to be removed and burned to avoid further spread to healthy plants by whiteflies. about 7 years ago.
