Dividing rhubarb plant

Rhubarb    UK

Quick question. I have a wonderful rhubarb plant that I promised to share with a friend so that she too could grow it in her garden. I had completely forgotten about this and now I fear I may be too late to divide the plant. Should I have done this in the autumn?

What happened to my rhubarb?

I took this picture of my rhubarb plant at some point over the summer. It survived but what was wrong with it? Will it grow again? As far as I remember, all the other plants nearby were fine and this happened quite suddenly. The soil looks a bit dry because I may have taken the picture before...

How to cut off Rhubarb flower?

Rhubarb    Lausanne, Switzerland

My Rhubarb plant is producing a flower, which I understand should be cut off immediately so that the plant will not put any more energy into it, rather than the leaves. Is it enough to just cut off the the flower, or would it be better to remove pretty much the entire stalk?

If rhubarb stalks have slug tracks on them, can they still be washed thoroughly and eaten?
