What happens to this walnut?

Walnut    None Given

I have a 20 year old walnut tree(j. regia) which is grown from seed.
I noticed these spots on a lot of leaves.
It seems to be scab or anthracnose but there are other strange spots.
What could it be according to you?
Thank you!

Could these be galls due to Eriophyes erineus, Aceria erinea, Aceria erineus?

Yes it looks like walnut gall mites damage (also called as walnut blister mites). There are several species that infect the walnut like Eriophyes erinea, Phytotus tristriatus, Aceria erinea etc.,

The mites attacks the leaves and causes raised hollow bumps on upper leaf surface. Also may attack green walnut husks resulting in russeting or blackening at the affected part. Generally they won't harm tree unless if there is high infestation.

Management:
1. If few leaves are infected remove and burn them.
2. Provide proper care and nutrition to plants to increase its growth and to with stand mite damage.
3. If tree is small you can spray strong jet of water occasionally to remove mites from leaves.

Thank you! The real question is this...I have two pecan plants of about 2 years, near these walnut trees so I think I must treat them to prevent these problems. According to you how can I prevent this? What kind of fungicides and pesticides can I use?

Dr. Ravishankar Narayana commented,
You can spray horticultural oil or insecticidal soap to prevent mite damage on pecan plants. Also occasionally spray strong jet of water to knockoff mites from leaf surface. It is not good to spray chemical pesticides like carbaryl which may kill beneficial insects and mites.
